Professional Experience
2014 – current
Mobile Library Associate, Kansas City, Kansas Public Library, Kansas City, KS
In the early planning stages of this program, my main focus was to scout the locations and plan the schedule for the 26 mobile library stops that rotate biweekly. In order to do this, I thouroughly researched Wyandotte County demographics to determine community need and found many public service organizations to partner with the library. Today, I continue to act as liaison between the library and those partners. In order to operate the 37” Mobile Library bus, I had to obtain a Missouri CDL and learn how to drive a school bus.
Every day, I strive to positively and actively promote library outreach while providing “front desk” service to Mobile Library patrons, including checkout of materials, reference, reader’s advisory, and other various inquiries. Other duties include assisting the Mobile Librarian with collection development, developing workshops, classes, and events for patrons to learn from and participate, create visually appealing displays featuring various themes and interests, and maintain social media presence for Mobile Library on Twitter and Instagram.
2012
Special Collections Intern, LaBudde Special Collections, Kansas City, MO
To complete my archive studies practicum, I completed various tasks in this special collections library. I arranged and described several archival collections, researched the history, subject matter, and creators of a collection of fine prints, curated an exhibition of anonymous Victorian era tintypes and photographs, and assisted the librarians with reference services and item retrieval.
2007 – 2008
Front of House Manager, Local 121, Providence, Rhode Island
Here, I worked with the general manager to assist with staff scheduling, menu planning, event hosting, and craft cocktail creation. Coordinating staff and representing the establishment in all areas of customer service were the main duties of this position.
2007
Interior Design Manager, Design/Ergonomics, Westport, Massachusetts
As a temporary position during company restructuring, I worked here to organize the creative aspect of a firm that designed ergonomic dental offices. I worked with dentists and their staff to ensure that the interior design of their new office reflected their professional taste and made their patients feel at ease. My job here was to maintain an organized and up to date sample library, to keep contact with product manufacturers, to participate in client meetings, and to provide quality customer service.
2005 – 2007
Volunteers and Demonstrations Coordinator, Southern Graphics Council 2007, Kansas City, Missouri
For this regional printmaking conference, held in Kansas City in 2007, I had two main jobs. One was to coordinate all of the volunteers needed at events held throughout the city while the conference was in operation. The second was to work with artists and students to arrange a series of printmaking demonstrations held at both the Kansas City Art Institute during the conference. I participated throughout the entire planning process, and throughout the event, acted as a liaison for guest instructors and visiting artists.
2005 – 2006
Printmaking Studio Technician and Teaching Assistant, Kansas City Art Institute, Kansas City, Missouri
My duties as the Print Tech were to maintain the studio for teaching and student use, demonstrate proper print technique, organize funds for supplies and maintenance, and supervise work-study students in the department. As a teaching assistant, I worked with the bookmaking instructor to ensure that the students were getting individual attention while learning to bind books by hand.
2004 – 2005
Furniture Restoration Intern, Teresa Dresslaer, Kansas City, Missouri
I worked with a local artist and furniture restorer to learn how to buy antiques at auction, identify valuable items, strip and refinish woodwork, and repair furniture as needed. I also helped the Mrs. Dresslaer maintain her studio and arrange work areas as needed. The furniture I found and refinished during my internship was used for my senior thesis installation at Mpress in Kansas City, MO in 2005.
