Program Outcome 8 – Administration and Management
Aid in effective and appropriate change in library and information services through collaboration, communication, and collegiality. Program Value 2 – Leadership Demonstrate leadership potential, with creativity in problem solving and openness to new ideas. The Strategic Plan project for Leadership and Administration of Information Organizations, Li805 was indeed a monster of a project. I spent the better part of the 2012 spring semester meeting with Matthew Fuegen, Hope Harms, and Kim Weir in our strategic planning group, Urban 4-Sight, coordinating our plan. The goal of the strategic plan project was not only to teach students how to create a strategy for new library direction, but was also to help instill within us the importance of team work in a professional library setting. Each group was to choose a leader and a secretary, among other jobs. I volunteered to be the leader for our group based solely on the fact that I had never really seen myself in a leadership role before. As it turned out, I felt very comfortable with my role; my communication skills and ability to delegate came to light. Although I was the “team leader,” all of the work was distributed accordingly and each member participated fully; we were lucky to have a team that worked so well together. The project as a whole was very important to me and I learned some valuable career lessons. My design skills are also showcased here, as I laid out the entire visual design for the plan. |
